Overview of Services
NGDC maintains an archive of all data recorded on DMSP satellites as relayed to NGDC by Air Force Weather Agency.
The archive contains OLS (fine), T, T2, IES, J4, M data.
The end user can obtain raw data from the sensors, download some standard products from the
DMSP Data Download Web Site as well as order
custom products for nighttime lights, fires and non standard data requests.
Finding data:

Use the NGDC online browse system called
Spidr to find OLS data. (VIS and TIR files)

Ordering Data
- Please Contact Us for Pricing
- What dates do you need data for?
- What are the latitude and longitude of the area you are interested in?
- Do you need Day or Night data?
- Which satellites do you want? Date/ranges of F10 - F15
- Do you want to substitute another satellite if no data is found?
- Do you need the OLS full orbit? Or sub-orbited?
A full orbit begins at the equator, then makes one vertical revolution of the earth and
ends when it reaches the equator. A suborbit is only a portion of the full orbit.
Example of a sub/full orbit
- Do you need the OLS data Geolocated? (VIS and TIR files)
With geolocated data, the user can obtain a latitude and longitude for any point on an image.
- What file format you would like: (binary, tiff, png, jpeg)
- If image format, would you like additional information added to the
Image? (i.e. coastlines, country boundaries, state boundaries)
- Select the output media:
