1 Deep-Ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis (DART(R)) As part of the U.S. National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program (NTHMP), the Deep Ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis (DART(R)) Project is an ongoing effort to maintain and improve the capability for the early detection and real-time reporting of tsunamis in the open ocean. DART(R) stations have been sited in regions with a history of generating destructive tsunamis to ensure early detection of tsunamis and to acquire data critical to real-time forecasts. DART(R) systems consist of an anchored seafloor bottom pressure recorder (BPR) and a companion moored surface buoy for real-time communications. An acoustic link transmits data from the BPR on the seafloor to the surface buoy. The data are then relayed via an Iridium satellite link to ground stations, which demodulate the signals for immediate dissemination to NOAA's Tsunami Warning Centers, NDBC, and PMEL. The National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) serves as the archive center for this data and provides the historical data to users.

      1 Latitude Latitude is measured from the equator, with positive values going north and negative values going south.
      1 Longitude Longitude is measured from the Prime Meridian (which is the longitude that runs through Greenwich, England), with positive values going east and negative values going west.
      1 Depth The ship-measured depth (meters) of the ocean at which the buoy was moored. The ship-measured depth is not as accurate as the BPR-measured pressure. To obtain the most precise depth, convert the bottom pressure to depth.

      1 Station_ID This is the Pacific Marine Environment Laboratory's (PMEL's) buoy identification number. The Station ID contains letters (e.g. "AK") and numbers (e.g. "10"). For example, "AK10", indicates that the buoy was moored in the waters off of Alaska and was the 10th buoy installed. The prefixes used by PMEL are: AK = Alaska, WC = West Coast (e.g. off Oregon's coast), EP = Equatorial Pacific, HI = Hawaii, D = DART(R) buoys (the name given to the most recent deployments), RT = Real Time (the name given to the TESTS of the most recent deployments)
      1 ID Unique identifier for the row in the database table.
      1 Location General location of the buoy.
      1 Data_Quality Area for comments about the quality of the data in the file.
