HEN04-2 was one of a series of cruises aimed at collecting high-resolution seafloor mapping data in areas along the US Atlantic continental margin that may potentially qualify for an extended continental shelf under Article 76 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
