Count Component Title Abstract
1 High-resolution Bottom Pressure Recorder (BPR) data from DART(R) station 52401_2006 20061211 to 20061218 The Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis (DART(R)) is an ongoing, multi-agency cooperative effort to maintain and improve the capability for the early detection and real-time reporting of tsunamis in the open ocean. The DART(R) network is an essential component in the provision of timely warnings to U.S. coastal communities. DART(R) data support the NOAA Tsunami Program observation requirements for Tsunami Offshore Real-Time and Post-event observations, as well as Global Water Level Observations. Each DART(R) system consists of an anchored seafloor Bottom Pressure Recorder (BPR) acoustically coupled to a moored surface buoy. Iridium transceivers and the acoustic modems provide real-time communication between each DART(R) system and the Tsunami Warning Centers (TWC) in Ewa Beach, Hawai`i and Palmer, Alaska. Additionally they provide limited communications from the TWC to the BPR. DART(R) BPR packages are deployable for 48 months at depths up to 6000 meters and are typically on a 24-month service schedule. The BPR is recovered by sending a signal to trigger an acoustic release causing it to mechanically separate from the anchor. Flotation brings the unit to the surface, leaving the anchor on the seafloor. Meinig, et. al. (2005) provides a description of DART(R) and its performance characteristics.

2 Depth The ship-measured depth (meters) of the ocean at which the buoy was moored. The ship-measured depth is not as accurate as the BPR-measured pressure. To obtain the most precise depth, convert the bottom pressure to depth. If value is 99999, depth is unknown.
2 Latitude of the BPR Latitude is measured from the equator, with positive values going north and negative values going south.
2 Longitude of the BPR Longitude is measured from the Prime Meridian (which is the longitude that runs through Greenwich, England), with positive values going east and negative values going west.
2 DART type The generation of the DART system (usually I or II)
2 Threshold The pre-programmed threshold in the bottom pressure recorder. If the water level exceeds this threshold, the tsunami detection algorithm sends the bpr into event recording mode.
2 Paros_ducer Pressure sensor is a 0-10,000 psi model 410K Digiquartz(R) unit manufactured by Paroscientific, Inc.
2 Location The general location where the buoy was located.
2 Board Number assigned to the BPR electronic boards by DART engineers.
      2 Osc Time measurement
2 Deployment Date Date and time of deployment of BPR Package in the format YYYYMMDD HH24MISS. The attribute may be left with only YYYY, if the month and day are unknown, or YYYYMM if the day is unknown.
2 Recovered Indicates if the BPR Package was recovered from the seafloor.
2 Recovery_date Date and time (Coordinated Universal Time) that the gauge was recovered in the format YYYYMMDD HH24MISS of recovery of BPR Package. The attribute may be left with only YYYY, if the month and day are unknown, or YYYYMM if the day is unknown. The value may be null.
2 Sample_rate This is the period, in minutes, at which the buoy makes a measurement. For the high-resolution data it is 15 seconds (0.25 min), but for the older buoys it is 56.25 seconds. When the BPR is not retrieved, sample rate is 15-min or event mode data.
2 Data_Qual Quality of the data collected.
2 Comments Comments on the recovery of the BPR package or the data collected.
2 Deployment Platform Abbreviation of ship name or research cruise that was used to deploy the BPR package.
2 Recovery Platform Abbreviation of ship name or research cruise that was used to recover the BPR package.
2 Pressure Edited Pressure [PSIA], pressure in pounds per square inch absolute
2 Temperature Edited Temperature [C] , temperature in Celsius.
2 Time Base Serial number of time base; clock.
2 Reference Oscillator Frequency Frequency measurement of time base. Two measurements are required; one at time of pre-deployment instrument prep, the second following instrument recovery.
2 BPR Software Version Internal software
2 Station occupied Date station first occupied. Either by NDBC or PMEL. If the station was first occupied under PMEL, there will be an alias or previous name.
2 Previous station name. Any other names that the station would have had.
2 Reference Oscillator Frequency Pre Deployment Frequency measurement of time base made in the laboratory before deployment.
2 Reference Oscillator Frequency Pre Deployment Frequency measurement of time base made on Deck just before deployment.
2 Reference Oscillator Frequency Post Deployment Frequency measurement of time base. Two measurements are required; one at time of pre-deployment instrument prep, the second following instrument recovery.
2 Clock Check Pre Deployment Record WWV and time as reported by BPR as part of pre-deployment instrument preparation.
2 Clock Check Post Recovery Record WWV and time as reported by BPR following BPR recovery.
2 Latitude of the surface buoy Latitude is measured from the equator, with positive values going north and negative values going south.
2 Longitude of the surface buoy Longitude is measured from the Prime Meridian (which is the longitude that runs through Greenwich, England), with positive values going east and negative values going west.
2 Buoy Number Number assigned to the surface buoy by the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC).
2 SIM Card ID The main communication ID used for system communications. Primary and secondary are redundant systems to minimize data loss.
