gov.noaa.ngdc.mgg.photos:10Leninakan-Spitak-Kirovakan, Armenia ImagesThe magnitude 6.9 earthquake shook northwestern Armenia, and was followed four minutes later by a magnitude 5.8 aftershock. The earthquakes affected an area 80 kilometers in diameter. This set includes damage photographs taken in and around the devastated cities of Spitak and Leninakan, where 25,000 deaths occurred. Location: Northwestern Armenian SSR, 18 kilometers north northwest of Spitak. Damage: $14.2 billion. Fifteen thousand were injured and 517,000 lost their homes. The death toll (25,000) could have been much worse had it not been for the heroic rescue of 15,000 who were pulled from the rubble. To provide long-term scientific data stewardship for the Nation's geophysical data, ensuring quality, integrity, and accessibilityasNeeded44.18544.18540.98740.987NASA/GCMD Earth Science KeywordsEARTH SCIENCE > HUMAN DIMENSIONS > Natural Hazards > Geological HazardsRestriction Code: otherRestrictions; DOC/NOAA/NESDIS/NGDC > National Geophysical Data Center, NESDIS, NOAA, U.S. Department of CommerceHazards Dataphysical and mailingNOAA/NESDIS/NGDC E/GC 325 BroadwayBoulderCO80305-3328(303) 497-3707haz.info@noaa.govUnknown 20120222Heather McCulloughDOC/NOAA/NESDIS/NGDC > National Geophysical Data Center, NESDIS, NOAA, U.S. Department of Commercemailing and physicalNOAA/NESDIS/NGDC/MGG325 Broadway E/GC3BoulderCO80305-3328(303) 497-3707haz.info@noaa.govHeather.McCullough@noaa.govContent Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata: Extensions for Remote Sensing MetadataFGDC-STD-012-2002
