1 2009 Bayfield County Lake Superior Lidar Survey The LIDAR survey presents digital elevation data sets of a bald earth surface model and 2ft interval contours covering Bayfield County, Wisconsin. The LIDAR data was acquired in March of 2009 using an Optech ALTM 3100EA LIDAR system. The spatial coordinate system is Wisconsin State Plane Bayfield North (4801) in meters, NAVD88 in meters, using the Geoid03 model.

    1 2009-04-01T00:00:00 The production of LIDAR bald earth DEM's and contours requires a LIDAR survey, LIDAR sensor calibration, data processing, ground control and ortho-rectified images. An Optech ALTM 3100EA LIDAR system was used flying at 4000ft agl with a 21deg scan angle and 40% sidelap for an avg raw point density of 2.6ft.
    1 2013-08-15T00:00:00 The NOAA Coastal Services Center (CSC) received topographic LAS files with no metadata. The files contained LiDAR elevation and intensity measurements. The points were classified as 'never classified' or unclassified. The data arrived in Wisconsin State Plane Bayfield North (4801) and in NAVD88 in feet. The following processing steps were performed by CSC: 1. A ground classification algorithm was applied to the data to classify 'bare earth' points. 2. The data were converted from NAVD88 orthometric elevations to ellipsoidal (GRS80) elevations using Geoid 03. 3. The data were transformed from projected State Plane (WI North) to Geographic coordinates (NAD83). 4. The data were merged into one large LAS file then retiled. 5. The data were converted to LAZ format. 6. Metadata for the lidar collection was created.
    1 2013-10-31T00:00:00 The NOAA National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) received lidar data files via ftp transfer from the NOAA Coastal Services Center. The data are currently being served via NOAA CSC Digital Coast at http://www.csc.noaa.gov/digitalcoast/. The data can be used to re-populate the system. The data are archived in LAS or LAZ format. The LAS format is an industry standard for LiDAR data developed by the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS); LAZ is a loseless compressed version of LAS developed by Martin Isenburg (http://www.laszip.org/). The data are exclusively in geographic coordinates (either NAD83 or ITRF94). The data are referenced vertically to the ellipsoid (either GRS80 or ITRF94), allowing for the ability to apply the most up to date geoid model when transforming to orthometric heights.
