Daily solar observations range from the mid 1800's to the present. White-light photographs of the solar disk and limb reveal features on and near the photospheric disk including active regions and sunspots. Solar observations viewed at specific wavelengths, including hydrogen-alpha (656.3 nm), calcium-K (393.3 nm), iron and radio frequencies, reveal the structure and dynamics of chromospheric features, including plague, filaments and prominences, and the extended corona. Composite full-sun drawings, prepared by professional staff at various observatories, provide a daily synoptic perspective of solar features that can be tracked from day to day. purpose: The NGDC Solar and Terrestrial Physics (STP) division provides scientific data stewardship of solar-terrestrial datasets in compliance with NOAA Administrative Order (NAO) 212-12, "Management of Environmental and Geospatial Data and Information", dated 04 Nov 10. Scientific Data Stewardship includes the Archive, Access, and Assessment (AAA) of operational and related solar and space environmental datasets. credit: Data access provided by the NOAA Solar and Terrestrial Physics Division. Numerous solar observatories have contributed to this collection - please refer to the Lineage section of this metadata record. status: (MD_ProgressCode) underDevelopment pointOfContact: (CI_ResponsibleParty) individualName: William Denig organisationName: DOC/NOAA/NESDIS/NGDC > National Geophysical Data Center, NESDIS, NOAA, U.S. Department of Commerce contactInfo: (CI_Contact) phone: (CI_Telephone) voice: (303) 497-6323 facsimile: (303) 497-6513 address: (CI_Address) deliveryPoint: NOAA/NESDIS/NGDC E/GC2 325, Broadway city: Boulder administrativeArea: Colorado postalCode: 80305-3337 country: U.S.A. electronicMailAddress: solar.ngdc@noaa.gov hoursOfService: 9:00 - 5:00 Mountain role: (CI_RoleCode) pointOfContact resourceMaintenance: (MD_MaintenanceInformation) maintenanceAndUpdateFrequency: (MD_MaintenanceFrequencyCode) annually graphicOverview: (MD_BrowseGraphic) fileName: ftp://ftp.ngdc.noaa.gov/STP/space-weather/solar-data/solar-imagery/documentation/browse_19890313_fd_bld.jpg fileDescription: Browse image of a full sun drawing for March 13, 1989 prepared by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center fileType: Joint Photographic Experts Group (jpg) format descriptiveKeywords: (MD_Keywords) keyword: Sun-Earth Interactions > Solar Activity > Solar Active Regions keyword: Sun-Earth Interactions > Solar Activity > Solar Imagery keyword: Sun-Earth Interactions > Solar Activity > Sunspots keyword: Sun-Earth Interactions > Solar Activity > Corona keyword: Sun-Earth Interactions > Solar Activity > Solar Synoptic Maps type: (MD_KeywordTypeCode) theme thesaurusName: (CI_Citation) title: NASA/GCMD Earth Science Keywords; Olsen, L.M., G.
