|OAR-Airborne Ocean Color (AOC)
||The Airborne Ocean Color sensor comprises 7 optical radiometers that look up to measure
the downwelling irradiance and 7 others that look down to measure the upwelling radiance.
The ratio provides the remote sensing reflectance of the ocean. The 7 bands are chosen
to approximate those on the SeaWIFS satellite sensor. From the remote sensing reflectance,
the concentration of chlorophyll a near the surface can be estimated using the same
algorithms that are used with the satellite data. The primary difference between the
airborne and satellite data is that the former can be collected below clouds and have
much greater spatial resolution.
