They may also contain x-rays of core samples and photographs of cores or dredges, or the ocean floor. Many photographs are from the Deep Ocean Mining Environmental Study (DOMES) from the central Pacific. DOMES photos are primarily of manganese nodules on the ocean floor. Original DOMES images have been scanned to TIFF form. Some DOMES photographs are stereo-pairs. Some vane shear data for surrounding sediments are also available, as well as 35-mm color slides of the box cores taken at some DOMES sites. All reports and data sets, regardless of format, are represented in the Marine Geology Digital Inventory and/or linked to the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples database. Most reports have been scanned and are available in Portable Document Format (PDF) form, however some only exist offline in their original paper, microfilm, or microfiche form and are available on request.
