Southeast Indian Ridge; Sampling locale: small cone in neovolcanic zone of segment J1.
1 :
Comments: Sample Type: Pillow basalt. Mineralogy: plagioclase. Weathering: Light to moderate. Glass condition: Some fresh glass. 1 bucket. Glass taken for probe and subsampled by DG. Remaining glass to KJ. Type 1 of this dredge. Several smaller pieces with little or no glass also included as unnumbered pieces.plagioclase-phyric pillow fragments with variable thickness of glass rinds up to ~0.5 cm.
2 :
Weathering/Metamorphism: weathering - moderate
Comments: Sample Type: Pillow basalt. Mineralogy: plagioclase. Weathering: Moderate. Glass condition: Some fresh glass and Mn/Fe oxide coatings. 1 bucket. Glass taken for probe. Remaining glass to KJ. Type 2 of this dredge.plagioclase phyric pillow fragments with thin glass rinds. rock interiors show dark Mn staining.
3 :
Comments: Sample Type: Plg-phyric basalt. Mineralogy: plagioclase. Weathering: Light to moderate. Glass condition: >50% fresh glass. 1 bucket. Glass taken for probe and subsampled by DG. Remaining sample to KJ. Type 3 of this dredge. A small bag of unnumbered pieces of this type also included.Plagioclase-phyric, thick (up to ~3 cm) dense glass rinds with hard orange Mn oxide coating.
