1 :
Comments: Hand Sample #1: 7 x 7 x 3 cm. Rock w. slightly botryodal Mn- crusts on top from 1/2 - 3/4 cm. Thick on a vesicular tan-grey tuff? basalt? Some phosphorite? between crust + substrate.
2 :
Comments: Hand Sample #2: 7 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 4 cm. rock similar to Sample #1 with porous Mn crust on top - sed rich ~ 2 cm thick on vesicular grey basalt also with some phosphorite? several small brown wormy things on surface.
3 :
Comments: Hand Sample #3: 4 x 5 x 3 cm rock with Mn staining < 1 mm thick covering ~ 75 percent of surface of tuffacious breccia (hyaloclastite?) with CO3? cement.
4 :
Comments: Hand Sample #4: 8 x 6 1/2 x 4 cm hyaloclastite with ~ 2 cm thick MnO2 crust on top. Sed rich + slightly porous with staining around rock + between breccia.
5 :
Comments: Hand Sample #5: 9 x 6 x 4 cm welded tuff? with Mn- staining over much of rock + running through rock in dentritic patterns.
6 :
Comments: Hand Sample #6: 7 x 6 1/2 x 2 cm highly altered vesicular basalt brown in color with green phenocryst and some phosphorite or CO3 replacement in vesicles Mn surrounds rock but is < 1 mm thick.
7 :
Comments: Hand Sample #7: 5 x 4 x 3 1/2 cm hyaloclastite surround by Mn 2-5 mm thick with dendritic-type Mn through rock.
8 :
Comments: Hand Sample #8: 8 x 7 x 3 1/2 cm altered basat with as much as 1 1/2 cm of Mn on top Fe-rich and ~ 2 mm of Mn surrounding the rest of the rock. Dendritic-type Mn is found throughout the basalt.
9 :
Comments: Hand Sample #9: 5 x 5 x 3 cm altered basalt? hyaloclastite? with phosphorite? between substrate + Mn which surrounds rock + is < 2 mm thick + is somewhat boytroidal.
10 :
Comments: Hand Sample #10: 4 x 3 x 2 1/2 cm Mn nodule with tuff as core. Some layering evident in Mn.
11 :
Comments: Hand Sample #11: 6 x 4 x 3 1/2 cm boytroidal Mn, porous, w Mn up to 2 cm thick on 3 sides + tuff basalt core.
12 :
Comments: Hand Sample #12: S.W. bucket with 10 cut rocks all vesicular altered basalts? with less than 1 mm Mn on outside some showing flow structure Alex has 2nd half of 4 samples.
13 :
Comments: Hand Sample #13: 6 substrate samples with Mn staining on outside shwoing variations from vesicular basalts-hyaloclastites - welded tuffs - lithified muds.
14 :
Comments: Hand Sample #14: S.W. bucket full of small talus chips.
15 :
Comments: Hand Sample #15: Misc. chips cut in half.
16 :
Comments: Hand Sample #16: 2 dredge bags full of samples same as Sample #12, Sample #17
