Manus Basin
1 :
Comments: ~20 kg of glassy, phyric lavas of vesicular and non-vesicular types. + pumice pieces. 1) Vesicular lavas: elongate vesicles mainly with spherical vesicles too (no irregular ones); very glassy (fresh, most are crumbly); some staining; few of the rocks have a greenish-tint; phenocrysts of plagioclase and clinopyroxene ?/or amphibole? 2) Non vesicular lavas: bulbous glass (not as shiny as group #1); some weathering; phenocrysts of plagioclase, possibly olivine. Pipe dredge has a lot of glass fragments with the sediments.
