S Pacific Ocean, N Fiji Basin. Chain bag dredge. Field description: basalt

Lithology/Mineralogy: igneous (extrusive/volcanic), basalt
Comments: Total 450 lbs rock (approximate). 3 sediment samples. 17 numbered (MW8701/03RD02-1 - 17). 14 pillow fragments, 1-13, 16: All (except 9) have glass; 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,13,16 have ol + pc; 4,12 have only pc ranging abundant to sparse; 1,5,7,8,9,10,11 have glomerocrysts of ol + pc or ol or pc alone; some samples have minor palagonite and Mn and/or Fe oxide; vesicles are .5-1 mm <1-5%; most show cooling fractures. 1 cobble, 14: very weathered exterior pc phyric (gabbo?) interior, zeolite filled vesicles. 1 sheet flow frag, 15: very coarse, scattered glomerocrysts of ol pc. 1 angular frag, 17: large very vesicular 5%+ angular block, ol rich. +3 sediment samples.
