Comments: Total dredge haul consisted of 4-500 lbs of basalt; some quite fresh and glass; some with up to 2 mm; Mn. minor palagonite and Fe oxide; many samples are ol phyric; also mud from pipe dredge. Sample 1,4 - pillow or flow frag; cooling fracture textures; medium grained; 0-7 mm glass; <1 mm alteration (Mn + Fe palag); ves .3-3 mm 1-2%; ol <1 mm; pc sparse <.5 mm. Sample 2,9,13 - irregular pillow frags; 0-8 mm pc phyric glass; rock pc & ol phyric; 0-2 mm alteration; medium grained; vesicles .5-1 mm, 0-2%; 5-10 mm chill (very fine) zone beneath glass. Sample 3,12 - pillow frag; medium grained; 0-6 mm glass; up to 1.5 mm ol phyric; <<1 mm alteration; vesicles .5-2 mm, 1%; coarse texture to weathered sfcs. Sample 5 - sheet flow frag; fine to medium grained; 0-11 mm glass withpc; <1 mm alteration; up to 2 mm ol & pc phyric; vesicles .2 mm, 1-3% + pipes; 10-13 mm chill zone. Sample 6 - pillow frag; fine to med grained; 0-4 mm glass, pc phyric; <1 mm alteration, none on glass; ?ol; pc up to .5 mm; vesicles 1-2 mm, <1%. Sample 7,8,10 - pillow frag; medium gained, 0-8 mm pc phyric glass; 0-2 mm alteration; ol <1 mm; pc <1.5 mm; vesicles 1-1.5 mm, <1%. Sample 11 - pillow frag, fine to med grained; aphyric 0-10 mm glass; <.5 mm alteration; sparsely phyric ol, pc <.7 mm; vesicles irregular .5-15 mm. Sample 14 - flow fragment; fine to med grained; 0-12 mm glass; abundantly ol phyric 2 mm; pc?; vesicles concen in layers; intra flow flowage 2-6 mm; 7 mm chill zone; <<.5 mm alteration. Sample 15 - pillow frag; 0-4 mm glass (aphyric); fine to med grained; minor ol + pc <.5 mm; vesicles abundant up to 1.5 mm, 3-5%; palagonite; 0-2 mm Mn + minor Fe oxide; rough exterior Mn texture.
