S Pacific Ocean, Suwarrow Trough. Chain bag dredge. Field description: clay
1 :
Lithology/Mineralogy: sediments (unconsolidated), clay, calcareous (1-30% biogenous matter-calcareous)
Comments: Suwarrow Trough; ~5 liters of carbonate-rich, red brown abyssal clay was recovered in a plastic tube mounted inside the cylindrical mega-dredge. When seived (62 micron mesh) and examined under binocular microscope, obvious that foraminiferal assemblage is Recent, very fresh, and contains delicate, solution-susceptible spp.
