The following organization provides Earthquake Data for Germany.

Seismic Data Analysis Center: Germany

The German Seismic Data Analysis Center is operated by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and natural resources (BGR - Bundesanstalt fuer Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe), which is the Geological Survey of Germany. The BGR (page in German only) is a state office that maintains the German Seismological Bulletin (available in English), and has two seismological subdivisions -

  • SZGRF: Operates seismic networks and arrays
  • SDAC: the national seismic data center

Epicenter data is available through SDAC using the Earthquake Information System, which provides access to epicenter data of various earthquake catalogues from the following agencies:

  • German Catalogue (1968 - yesterday)
  • USGS (United States Geological Survey, Golden, Colorado)
  • ISC (International Seismological Center, Newbury, UK)
  • Significant Earthquakes

On request, epicenter data from historical earthquakes from the year 800 A.D. onwards can be provided. In addition, waveform, seismic bulletin and individual station data is available through SDAC's Auto DRM (Automatic Data Request Manager).

The monthly seismic catalogue put out by BGR is a preliminary compilation of epicenter data and seismic phase readings provided by German seismological institutes. In general, only events with magnitudes equal to or greater than ML=2.0 are included in this catalogue. Later, reviewed yearly data catalogues are published on the basis of the epicenter data of the monthly catalogues.

Contact SDAC or visit the website for further information.
