The following organization provides Earthquake Engineering Information.

Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) Center

The Earthquake Engineering Research Center (EERC) is an organized research unit of the University of California at Berkeley. Founded in 1967, EERC is dedicated to research, education, and dissemination of technical information in earthquake engineering and hazard mitigation. In 1998 the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center was established in Berkeley by NSF. The PEER Center features a research team comprising faculty, visiting scholars, students, professional staff, and business and industry representation with expertise in many disciplines. The center piece of EERC research facilities is the 20 ft by 20 ft earthquake simulator or test shake table. EERC activities encompass research programs, education programs, post-earthquake reconnaissance, and the National Information Service for Earthquake Engineering (NISEE) operated cooperatively with the California Insitute of Technology.

The National Information Service for Earthquake Engineering (NISEE) was founded in 1971 to provide technology transfer services to the earthquake engineering community. Its activities are supported by the National Science Foundation. The following products and services are offered:

computer software: the inventory includes more than 110 programs for structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and seismology sold on a cost recovery basis, usually in source code format. Strong motion records are also available.

earthquake engineering abstracts: a bibliographical database of the periodical, journal, conference proceedings and monographic literature in earthquake engineering containing more than 80,000 citation records. The database is made freely available at http://www.eerc.berkeley.edu

EERC reports: more than 600 technical reports have been published since 1967 and are available on subscription or individual basis. Since 1998, PEER reports replace the EERC reports.

internet applications: NISEE/EERC 's web page links to earthquake information services worldwide, the bibliographic and software database, and to other services in earthquake engineering. EQIIS, the earthquake image information system, provides on-line access to more than 12,000 slides of eathquake damage from around the world for educators and media. The website provides access to other visual and educational information in structural engineering.

newsletter: PEER Center News, the Center's quarterly newsletter containing current geotechnical research and news, is available as a no-cost subscription.

library: EERC maintains a specialized research library with over 49,000 items in earthquake engineering and allied fields. The library provides a public loan and photocopy service nationally and internationally and can be reached through the major library utility, OCLC, or directly by E-mail (eerclib@eerc.berkeley.edu).
