Image Credit: University of Colorado The shield volcano consists of more than 20 eruptive centers over a 20 x 30 km area that also includes Japan's first national park. Sixty-nine eruptions have been documented since 742 A.D. Kirishima is one of Japan's 31 active volcanoes, and has erupted 19 times since 1700. Event Data:
