The spring of 1995 was very rainy in eastern Colorado, and at this site the rains initiated landsliding. The area, located on hilly terrain in a mapped ancient landslide area, was part of a development built in the 1980s. Rains saturated the native soil and lubricated shear planes in the shale, which started the hillside moving. This home was one of two that were damaged so extensively that they were eventually condemned.

Rockfalls and Slides
The slopes above streams and rivers are subjected to a variety of processes that cause them to recede and retreat from the river or stream channel. These processes, collectively called mass wasting, can be classified according to rapidity of movement and according to the type of materials that are transported.
