      <abstract>
        This digital data set is archived at the National Climatic Data Center
(NCDC). Buoys that collect the data make up the US Coastal Marine station group
and are monitored by the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC). NCDC archives only
data of meteorological interest from the buoys. Oceanographic data is archived
by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The geographic coverage of
the buoys is the Great Lakes, North Atlantic Ocean, North Pacific Ocean, Gulf
of Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, and Hawaiian Islands areas. Data from 1970 to the
present are available.

Parameters are: Air and dew point temperature (Deg. C to
10ths), sea level pressure (mb to 10ths), wind direction (deg to 10ths), wind
speed (m/s to 100ths), current weather (coded), visibility (nm to 10ths),
precipitation (accumulation in mm), solar radiation (if available, in
langleys/min), sea surface temperature (deg C to 100ths), significant wave
height (m to 10ths) and average wave period (sec to 10ths).
