<abstract>
        Tropical Storm Tracks for the North Atlantic, East, North,
and Western Pacific (DSI-9697) is a historical digital data set archived at
the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). This file contains dates, tracks,
wind speeds, and central pressure values (if available) for all tropical
cyclones occurring over the 110-year period, 1886 through 1996. The tracks
represented in the file are the 'best tracks'. Best tracks are
constructed by the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center
during post-analysis and all available information, including aircraft
reconnaissance fixes, satellite imagery, land based radar fixes, ship reports,
station reports and ocean buoy reports, are considered. Some discrepancies are
found by the analyst, therefore, subjective interpretations are made and then
smoothed to draw the 'best tracks'. The tracks are then digitized into
three record images for each storm; Classification, Storm Data, and Title.
