This data file contains monthly and annual averages of maximum, minimum, and mean temperatures, precipitation, snowfall, and evaporation; monthly and annual highest and lowest temperatures; mean number of days with precipitation equal to or greater than 0.1 and 0.5 inch; and mean number of days with temperature equal to or greater than 90 Deg. F or equal to or less than 32 Deg. F. Data encompasses all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Although there have been no supplements to the Climatography of the United States, Climatic Summary of the U.S., published since the 1951-1960 edition, sequential tables of monthly and annual values of the average maximum, average minimum, and average temperatures and total precipitation have been compiled for the period 1951-1980, 1961-1990, and 1971-2000 for many stations. In order to be included in the normals, a station had to have at least 10 years of monthly temperature data or 10 years of monthly precipitation data for each month in the period of record. These are included in and may be ordered from DSI-9641 (C00115). Data subsequent to 2000 are available in DSI-3220 (C00504) and Climatological Data publications (C00128).
