      <abstract>
Climatography of the United States No.40 is a historical publication
series that are available at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). This
series was prepared and published by the NCDC. It describes the climate of
six cities in the United States of America.
The volumes are:
1. Selma, Alabama (1956) for the period 1892-1955.
2. Baltimore, Maryland (1956) for the period 1817-1954.
3. New York, New York (1958) for the period 1822-1956.
4. Seattle, Washington and Puget Sound area (1961) for the period 1890-1959.
5. Chicago, Illinois (1962) for the period 1830-1960.
6. Houston and Galveston, Texas area (1962) for the period 1874-1960.
These volumes contain narrative summaries of general climatic conditions,
historical station locations, and a general map of the area. The major
parameters included are monthly and annual average temperatures (Deg. F),
highest and lowest daily temperatures of record (Deg. F), mean hourly
temperatures (Deg. F), dry-bulb temperatures (Deg. F), heating, and sometimes
cooling, degree days (base 65 Deg. F), precipitation (in.), snowfall (in.),
station and sea level pressure (in. Hg or mb), wind speed (mph), relative
humidity (%), dew-point temperature (Deg. F), wet-bulb temperature (Deg. F),
ceiling heights (ft.), and visibility (miles).
The Climatic Handbook for Washington, DC, published in 1949 as U.S. Weather
Bureau Technical Paper No. 8 was the forerunner of the Climatography of the
U.S. #40.
