      <abstract>
        Tropical Cyclone Data-North Atlantic is a historical digital
data set archived at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). The major
parameters that make up this file are; sequential numbers of each storm,
time, location, stage of storm, direction, speed of movement, type of
movement and maximum wind speed. A number is assigned to each tropical storm
day. These numbers are assigned in sequential order, beginning with the first
tropical storm day in 1886. There are two cards for each assigned storm day
number. Card no. 1 contains the 7am data. Card no. 2 contains the 7pm data.
The 24-hour displacement of the center of tropical cyclones are computed
using the 7am position or 7pm position, respectively. The 24-hour
displacement is given for each card , when available. 12-hour movements are
also given. The 12-hour displacements of the center of tropical cyclones are
computed using the 7am position or 7pm position, respectively. Three 12-hour
displacements are given on each card for each day listed, when available.
