Forecast Grids for MOST Model
Canada Grids
The British Columbia, Canada Forecast Model Grids provides bathymetric data strictly for tsunami inundation modeling with the Method of Splitting Tsunami (MOST) model. MOST is a suite of numerical simulation codes capable of simulating three processes of tsunami evolution: generation, transoceanic propagation, and inundation of dry land. Tsunami waves are computationally propagated across a set of three nested grids (A, B, and C), each of which is successively finer in resolution, moving from offshore to onshore. Nearshore details are resolved to the point that model output can be directly compared with tide gauge observations and can provide estimates of wave arrival time, wave amplitude and simulation of wave inundation onto dry land. A Grid Resolution: 54.4979 arc-sec in the x direction. 30 arc sec in the y direction. B Grid Resolution: 16.5247 arc-sec in the x direction. 9 arc sec in the y direction. C Grid Resolution: 5.5156 arc-sec in the x direction. 3 arc sec in the y direction.
These grids were constructed for use in tsunami inundation modeling.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
The horizontal accuracy of the grid is expressed as an estimated root mean square error (RMSE). The estimate of the RMSE is based on horizontal accuracy tests of the source data which are selected as equal to or less than the intended horizontal RMSE error of the grid. Horizontal positioning of the various source points were compared with each other to verify grid accuracy.
Vertical Positional Accuracy Report
The vertical RMSE is used to determine vertical accuracy of the grid. It accounts for systematic and random errors. The accuracy of bathymetric soundings are within 2% of depth. The original topographic soundings are accurate within one-half the contour interval.
Errant data points were removed from the various sources before processing the grid. The final grid was visually and statistically inspected for completeness using ArcGIS.
Each data set went through a stringent quality control procedure from their respective originators. The developed grid was compared with initial sources, other source control data, and corresponding data between datasets to verify accuracy.
