Knudsen 3260 chirp subbottom profiler CHIRP Subbottom Profiler data were collected in Raw Knudsen SEG-Y Datagram format.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), on behalf of the United States Government, has a requirement to carry out surveys of specific regions on the continental margin (slope and rise) in the Pacific Ocean in order to obtain Raw Knudsen SEG-Y Datagram. These data are required to support any potential claim for extended jurisdiction by the United States under United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) Article 76. The requirement is for the collection and processing of full-coverage multibeam sonar data in water depths of approximately 1000 to 5000 m in order to precisely define the location of the 2500-m isobath and the "foot of the slope" as defined under UNCLOS Article 76. As part of their NOAA-funded research program, University of New Hampshire (UNH) researchers oversaw data acquisition, processing and archiving of the data collected during the cruise.

The Marine Trackline Geophysics database contains bathymetry, magnetics, gravity and seismic navigation data collected during marine cruises from 1939 to the present. Coverage is worldwide. Data sources include both US and foreign oceanographic institutions and government agencies. This map service shows tracks (both ship and airborne) for all geophysical surveys in the database, split into sub-layers by data type. This dynamic map service allows these sub-layers to be toggled on/off: All Survey Types (0) - visible by default; Bathymetry (1); Gravity (2); Magnetics (3); Multi-Channel Seismics (4); Seismic Refraction (5); Shot-Point Navigation (6); Side Scan Sonar (7); Single-Channel Seismics (8); Subbottom Profile (9); Aeromagnetic Surveys (10). Separate cached (tiled) map services are also available for several of these layers: All Survey Types (https://noaa.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=589adaec19ba48a9942ca9b13000c46d), Bathymetry (https://noaa.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=09dba3b48e8b49f4bcbf21f6e51ef6ed), Gravity (https://noaa.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=00cb8aa7607b4f11b78ef5a0e77921f5), Magnetics (https://noaa.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=09d6cfa8909545ddbfe93657ad761222), and Single-Channel Seismics (https://noaa.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=ff835a5df139428f992a6066151ffdda).

NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information
NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.

R/V Kilo Moana
Kilo Moana (KM)
The R/V Kilo Moana is a 186â Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) vessel owned by the U.S. Navy and operated by the University of Hawaii Marine Center. Because of the unique SWATH design, the Kilo Moana is a very stable and comfortable platform from which to conduct oceanographic research. The ship was designed as a multi-purpose oceanographic research vessel with extensive equipment for geophysical (2 multibeam echosounders, subbottom profiler, gravimeter and magnetometer), physical oceanographic (Doppler current profilers, CTDs, pCO2); meteorological and radioisotope research. Over 2500 sq. ft. of space is provided in 8 different laboratories and over 4000 sq. ft. of exterior working space is available on the aft main deck and the forward 01 deck. The Kilo Moana was built in 2001 and commissioned in 2002. The vessel operates out of Honolulu, Hawaii, and has worked throughout the Pacific. The cruising speed is 12 kt., with a minimum speed of less than 1 kt. and station keeping supported by dynamic positioning.

Kongsberg EM122
Multibeam Echosounder
EM 122 multibeam echosounder is a high performance echosounder for deep water mapping with up to 288 simultaneous beams. The EM 122 is designed to perform seabed mapping to full ocean depth with an unsurpassed resolution, coverage and accuracy. The system is cost effective, reliable, and easily operated. The design of the EM 122 is based on more than 50 years of hydrographic experience with echo sounders, sonars and underwater positioning for civilian and military use. It is the latest model in a series of deep sea multibeam echo sounders started with the EM 12 in 1990 and followed by the EM 121 and the EM 120, of which about 40 systems are operational. It uses the same transducers as in the EM 120 but with new electronics and software. Compared with the EM 120 the EM 122 has up to four times the resolution in terms of sounding density through inclusion of multiping capability and more than twice the number of detections per swath. High density signal processing is a major improvement, to keep the acoustic footprint size small even for the outer beams in the swath. In typical ocean depths a sounding spacing of about 50 m across and along is achievable. The achievable swath width of the EM 122 is in the order of 30,000 m, or about 25% more than possible with the EM 120. This is obtained by using long FM chirps which gains about 15 dB in signal to noise ratio compared to CW pulses. The EM 122 is a complete system. All necessary sensor interfaces, data displays for quality control and sensor calibration, seabed visualization, and data logging are a standard part of the system, as is integrated seabed acoustical imaging capability (side scan). Including a higher frequency multibeam echo sounder such as EM 710 with the EM 122 system can give a total system solution meeting the strictest IHO requirements for all water depths. As proven with the EM 120, an accuracy of better than 0.2% of depth in deep waters is readily achievable with the EM 122.

Kongsberg EM710
Multibeam Echosounder
The EM 710 multibeam echosounder is a high to very high resolution (up to 800 soundings per ping) seabed mapping system capable of meeting all relevant survey standards. The system configuration can be tailored to the user's requirement, allowing for choice of beam widths as well as transmission modes. The minimum survey depth is from less than 3 meters below the transducers, and the maximum depth is approximately 2000 meters, somewhat dependant upon array size. Across track coverage (maximum swath width 140ú) is up to 5.5 times water depth, to a maximum survey depth more than 2000 meters. The along track beamwidth depends upon the chosen transmit transducer configuration with 0.5ú, 1ú and 2ú available as standard. The receive beam width is either 1ú or 2ú depending on the chosen receive transducer. The EM 710 operates at sonar frequencies in the 70 to 100 kHz range. The transmit fan is divided into three sectors to maximize range capability, but also to suppress interference from multiples of strong bottom echoes. The sectors are transmitted sequentially within each ping, and uses distinct frequencies or waveforms.
