Photos of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO), Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) repository, provided by Iris Hardy. Some of the photos show the Spacesaver rolled racking for paper/record storage (blue box shot) and maps - have two units. We are scanning most records/reports now so have freed up a lot of this space over the past year. Most of our geophysical records are now scanned and available on the intranet for internal use by research staff. Our philosophy is that we will never have any more space than the 10,000 sq ft we presently have. Then photos of the ambient core storage units (Spacesaver and Drummex) which are used for cores collected pre-1990 and associated subsamples residue/microfossils etc. These take the heaviest loads - 8 ton wheels. Also an electric eye as a safety measure to stop the unit. Yes the wrench is a means should the power fail for the Drummex system - a safety feature! Finally, photos of the refrigerated walkin cooler (Bally) is within a 900 sq ft. unit also a Spacesaver, modified for D-tube storage. Not shown is the 1200 sq ft refrigerated system, which is the primary unit for the recent cores - post 2000.
