• Minimum requirements for entry into the database are ship, cruise, sample, sampling device, and latitude/longitude of collection. Data are preferred in spreadsheet form, but NGDC will work with contributors to adapt data in other electronic forms.

The Curators' database parameters and codes were designed by the Curators of Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples Consortium. Modifications to parameters and definitions since 1977 are be approved by the group, which meets approximately every 2-3 years and corresponds via list server between meetings.
