DSDP/Sediment Chemistry 3/87 =============================== = DEEP SEA DRILLING PROJECT = = SEDIMENT CHEMISTRY = =============================== I. BACKGROUND Hundreds of studies utilizing dozens of laboratory techniques have been carried out on thousands of samples of core recovered from the seabed by the Deep Sea Drilling Project. The results of many of these shorebased investigations were subsequently published in the Initial Reports of the Deep Sea Drilling Project. Databases have been developed from interstitial water chemistry data and from hard rock chemistry data. However, the extreme diversity of the studies of the chemistry of sediments have produced a wealth of organic and inorganic sediment chemistry data that is not easily coerced into a single orderly and coherent database (Calvert, 1984; Kvenvolden, 1984). Report MGG-1, published in 1984 by the National Geophysical Data Center for the World Data Center A for Marine Geology and Geophysics, addressed this problem. It contained indexes to studies of the organic chemistry of sediments and to studies of the inorganic chemistry of sediments which had been published in the Initial Reports, Volumes 1 thru 44. This document is an extension of those indexes covering the remaining volumes of the Initial Reports, 45 thru 96. II. FILE CONTENTS A - INORGANIC SEDIMENT CHEMISTRY INDEX: contains the continuation of the index of elemental analyses of sediments, formatted identically with Table 1 on page 181 of MGG-1, and the list of references to which it refers. (Calvert, 1984) B - ORGANIC SEDIMENT CHEMISTRY INDEX: contains the continuation of the index of compound types, formatted identically with Table 1 on page 208 of MGG-1, and the list of references to which it refers.
