OCEAN DRILLING PROGRAM revised DATA FILE DOCUMENTATION April 1990 CORELOG I. INTRODUCTION The Corelog data file contains basic information about each core collected onboard the JOIDES Resolution by the Ocean Drilling Program. Each record in the data file represents one core and records the top and bottom depth of the core, the number and length of the core sections, time and date of recovery, etc. This data file is important for providing depth calculations for samples, verification of coretypes, calculating recovery, percent recovery, and total penetration of the hole. If you have problems or questions concerning these data, please contact: Data Librarian, Data Base Group Ocean Drilling Program Texas A&M University Research Park 1000 Discovery Drive College Station, Texas 77845-9547 U.S.A. No Corelog data were collected on Leg 102. III. BIBLIOGRAPHY Palmer, A. A., Austin, J. A., Jr., Schlager, W., 1986. Introduction and explanatory notes. In Austin, J. A., Jr., Schlager, W., Proc. EXPLANATION OF THE CORELOG DATA ITEMS LEG - Number identifying the cruise. The Ocean Drilling Program started numbering the cruises of the JOIDES Resolution at Leg 101. SUBLEG - Letter identifying a subleg or transit. A subleg is the continuation of a Leg in the same area with the same objectives after a port call and crew change. SITE - Number identifying the site. A site is the position of a beacon around which holes are drilled. HOLE - Letter identifying the hole. CORE - Number identifying the core. Cores are numbered serially from the top of the hole downward. CORETYPE - A letter code identifying the drill bit/coring method used to retrieve the core. The coretype codes are: B - Drill Bit C - Center Bit D - Positive Displacement H - Hydraulic Piston Core M - Miscellaneous N - Downhole Mud Motor (Navidrill) P - Pressure Core Barrel R - Rotary S - Side Wall Core W - Wash Core X - Extended Core Barrel DATE_ON_DECK - Date core was retrieved and brought on deck. TIME_ON_DECK - Time core was retrieved and brought on deck. TECH - Name code of Marine Technician making corelog entry. DRIFT_ANGLE - Recorded in degrees, the deviation off vertical of the hole. Measured by the Multishot tool. TOP_DEPTH - Sub-bottom depth in meters to top of core. BOTTOM_DEPTH - Sub-bottom depth in meters to bottom of core. CC - Y is entered if a core catcher exists for this core. ORIENTED - Y is entered if the core was oriented. HEAT_FLOW - Y is entered if a heat flow measurement was taken on this core. PRESSURE - Y is entered if a pressure measurement was taken on this core. CORECOMMENTS - Any comments pertaining to the core as a whole. TEST - Used to assign a code name to an unusual test run on the core. TESTNAME_B - Used to assign a code name for a second unusual test run on the core. LINER1 - The length in cm to which the liner of the first core section is cut. This length is used to calculate subbottom depths. CURATED_LENGTH1 - The length of the first core section in cm sent to the repository. This may be different than the liner length for the same section. Hard rock core will often have spacers added to prevent rock pieces colliding and breaking. INTERSTITIAL_WATER1 - Marked Y if an IW sample was taken from the first core section. The interval in cm where the sample was taken is noted in comments. ORGANIC_GEOCHEMISTRY1 - Marked Y if an OG sample was taken from the first core section. The interval in cm where the sample was taken is noted in comments. TEST1 - Marked Y if analysis coded in TEST was run on the first core section. TESTB1 - Marked Y if analysis coded in TESTNAME_B was run on the first core section. COMMENTS1 - Comments pertaining only to core section 1. . . . LINER_CC - The length in cm of the liner into which the core catcher is put. CURATED_LENGTH_CC - The length in cm of the core catcher sent to the repository. CC_STORED - The section number that the core catcher is stored in at the repository. CC_COMMENT - Comments pertaining only to the core catcher. DATE_OF_ENTRY - Date record entered into the Corelog data file. TIME_OF_ENTRY - Time record entered into the Corelog data file. ADJUSTED_TOP - Subbottom top depth of the core in meters if the depth is corrected post-cruise. ADJUSTED_BOTTOM - Subbottom bottom depth of the core in meters if the depth is corrected post-cruise.
