Summary: The gravity station data (53,520 records) were gathered by various governmental organizations (and academia) using a variety of methods. This data base was received in November 1980. Principal gravity parameters include Free-air Anomalies and Simple Bouguer Anomalies (no terrain correction applied). The observed gravity values are referenced to the International Gravity Standardization Net 1971 (IGSN 71). The gravity anomaly computation uses the Geodetic Reference System 1967 (GRS 67) theoretical gravity formula. The data are randomly distributed within the boundaries of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPRA).

Documents available from the USGS include:

Vol I - “Gravity and Magnetic Investigations of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska”, by S.I. Gutman, A. Goldstein, and E.C. Guldenzopf, 1982; 57 p. of text including 5 tables, 20 maps, and 28 figures;

Vol II - “Descriptions and Principal Facts for Gravity Base Stations in the National Petroleum reserve in Alaska”, by S.I. Gutman and M.D. Donahue, 1981; 33 p. of text and tables, plus 413 p. of Gravity Base Station Descriptions, and 1 map (scale 1:500,000). Also includes “Supplementary Terrain Corrections for Gravity Data from the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska”, by David F. Barnes, 10 p.
