2000 Cayuga County New York Lidar

Frequently-asked questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title:

2000 Cayuga County New York Lidar

Abstract:

These data were collected in April of 2000 for the Cayuga County New York Department of Planning and Economic Development. Elevation points were sampled at densities necessary to support the generation of contours that meet or exceed United States National Map Accuracy Standards applicable to the map scales that County tax maps are published and for the following intervals of contour lines to be depicted: four feet for the entire county, two feet for the City of Auburn and adjacent area and two feet for six floodplain areas. This is a bare earth data set, the points, however, are classified as "Never Classified". There are points returned from water surfaces. Point spacing is approximately 5 m. Also, there are areas in the county where the data have been regularized, i.e. gridded points.

2. What changes have been made?

Date Event
2000 The LiDAR data were collected in April 2000 for Cayuga County Department of Planning and Economic Development by EagleScan/3Di LLC For the City of Auburn and adjacent areas, the data was acquired at an altitude of 1000m (3000 ft) Above Ground Level (AGL). For the remaining area of the county, the altitude was 2000m (6000 ft) AGL.
20081223 The NOAA Coastal Services Center (CSC) received the files in ESRI shapefile format. The data were in New York State Plane coordinates, Central Zone, NAD 83, NAVD88 vertical datum and the vertical units of measure were feet. CSC performed the following processing to the data to make it available within Digital Coast: 1. The data were converted from ESRI Shapefile format to las format using LASEdit. 2. The data were converted from New York State Plane Central coordinates to geographic coordinates. 3. The data were converted from NAVD88 (orthometric) heights to GRS80 (ellipsoid) heights using Geoid99. 4. The vertical unit of measure for the data was converted from feet to meters. 5. The LAS data were sorted by latitude and the headers were updated. 6. The data were filtered to remove outliers.
20060103 The NOAA National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) received Lidar data files on external harddrive. The disk contains LiDAR data from the NOAA Coastal Services Center. This data is currently being served via LDART at http://www.csc.noaa.gov/ldart . This data can be used to re-populate the system. The data are provided on this disk in two forms, ascii x,y,z data and also in LAS format. LAS format is an industry standard for serving LiDAR data. The data are exclusively in geographic coordinates, however, the datums used vary. Most is NAD 83, however some is in ITRF. Vertical systems include both ellipsoid (ITRF and NAD 83) and NAVD 88. For NAVD 88 values, Geiod 03 is primarily used; however, data received in NAVD 88 prior to 2003 was processed using Geoid 99.
