Frequently-asked questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title:

2001 Harris County, Texas Lidar

Abstract:

This data set was received by the NOAA Coastal Services Center from the Texas Natural Resources Information System. The data was collected in October of 2001 by Terrapoint USA, Inc. using an Airborne LIDAR Topographic Mapping System (ALTMS). Flight altitude was approximately 915 meters, creating a data swath of approximately 550 meters. The surface elevation value accuracy is better than 15 centimeters. The lidar points are unclassified.

2. What changes have been made?

Date Event
2001 The lidar data was collected by Terrapoint USA, Inc. for the Harris County Flood Control District. The data was collected in October of 2001 using an Airborne LIDAR Topographic Mapping System (ALTMS). Flight altitude was approximately 915 meters, creating a data swath of approximately 550 meters.
20081103 The NOAA Coastal Services Center (CSC) received the files in ASCII format. The data were in Texas State Plane Projection ADSZone 5401 (Texas South Central), NAVD88 vertical datum and the vertical units of measure were feet. CSC performed the following processing to the data to make it available within Digital Coast: 1. The data were converted from Texas State Plane East, ADSZone 5401 (Texas South Central) coordinates to geographic coordinates. 2. The data were converted from NAVD88 (orthometric) heights to GRS80 (ellipsoid) heights using Geoid99. 3. The vertical unit of measure for the data was converted from feet to meters. 4. The LAS data were sorted by latitude and the headers were updated.
