To address the needs of the coastal resource management community, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Coastal Services Center makes available, in partnership with federal, state, and local governments, high resolution elevation data collected using remote sensing technologies. The Coastal Services Center serves IfSAR and lidar data via online download tools that maximize the utility and customization of the data. These data sources are highly accurate and provide wide scale coverage of coastal areas. Some of the more common uses of the data include:
* Shoreline Mapping and Change - increase accuracy and resolution of
shoreline
* Inundation Modeling - analyze storm surge and tsunami and wave
propagation
* Engineering - design and monitoring of coastal structures and projects
* Permitting - definition of local physiography and site/property
conditions
* Habitat Restoration/Preservation - planning, design, and
monitoring of restoration projects and mapping of critical habitats
* Disaster Response - rapid 3D assessment and inventory of ground
conditions
* Viewshed/watershed analyses - 3D depictions of the terrain and
features
