This is Volume 3 in the Global Change Data Base:

The subdirectories under this directory contain documentation on individual ancillary data sets. The data are contained in the \DATA\NCILLARY directory.

Most of the data are .gif files scanned from documentation of the Global Ecosystems Database. The Global Ecosystems Database itself is available from

The Global Ecosystems Database, and other parts of the Global Change Data Base of NOAA/NGDC contain integrated digital representations of soils, vegetation, ecosystems, climate, topography, and other information. This information can be vaulable in studies of climate or vegetation - and for comparison with the AVHRR-based climatologies distributed on this CD.

The individual subdirectories in \DOCUMENT are for individual layers in this \DATA\NCILLARY data base.

The directory names are the same as the first characters in the files under \DATA\NCILLARY. Thus the \DOCUMENT\NCILLARY\FSOIL directory contains documentation on the file \DATA\NCILLARY\FAOSOIL.IMG

.gif files are popular, and are viewable in many graphics packages. GeoVu, included on this CD-ROM, can view .gif files with its slide show capability. See the GeoVu documentation (gvhelp.ps) file contained in the GeoVu directories. In addition, most World Wide Web browsers can view .gif files.
