Before anything else, you will need an account on a UNIX machine. See your system administrator for an account with a login_name and a password (yourpassword). Then you can login in a session something like the following:
UNIX(r) System V Release 4.0 (wizard)
login: login_name Password: yourpassword
In this book, what you type is printed as boldface. At the end of every line, you must also type a carriage return (``Return'' or ``Enter'' on most computer keyboards).
After some login message, you will get a command line prompt which varies widely. In this book, we use the symbol ``%'' as the command line prompt.
