W Pacific Ocean, Manus Basin. Chain bag dredge. Field description: basalt

Lithology/Mineralogy: igneous (extrusive/volcanic), basalt
Comments: ~50 kg of beautiful, glassy, non-vesicular lavas, except for 1 weathered, vesicular lava with no glass! Vesicluar lava has vesicles ~0.15 cm diameter; tend to be spherical. Glassy lavas. Glass tends to be friable; very fresh. Dense lavas; very, very tiny vesicles. Aphyric (?). Lots of beautiful structures in this unit. 3 pails.
