S Pacific Ocean, East Manihiki. Chain bag dredge. Field description: basalt; limestone

Lithology/Mineralogy: igneous (extrusive/volcanic), basalt
Comments: East Manihiki; ~20-25 kg of rocks all taken as hand specimens. Assortment of pieces included 1 limestone piece 40 x 30 x 30 cm covered *** thin Mn stains to maximum of 3 mm crust. Depressions were filled *** stains + thin crusts. Rest of samples were smaller - first size to 20 x 15 x 15 cm and consisted of unconsolidated and consolidated volcanic sandstones siltstones, and claystones with some containing phosphatized carbonates. All samples were at least stained *** Mn and most were covered *** 5 mm to 2 cm of crust. two samples showed well developed crusts up to 4.5 cm thick with admixed phosphorite.
