E Pacific Ocean, Galapagos Rise. Chain bag dredge. Field description: basalt

Lithology/Mineralogy: igneous (extrusive/volcanic), basalt
Comments: Approx 2000 lbs of dark angular rocks - more or less uniform in size with a range of 10 kg down (in wt.) Basalt (?) showing radial type fracture at 90 degrees to surface. Surface is pillowy (i.e. rounded, convex up) segments. Th outermost portion of which is obsidian. Rocks apparently pitted on some surfaces. very few fresh surfaces. Some sediment clinging to some of the rocks. (30% coccoliths, 30% foram frags, 30% Calc. Bio Hash).
