These data are part of Roberts, Richard W., University of Washington, Department of Oceanography Special Report No. 70, Bottom Sediment Granulometric Data for the Continental Margins of the Bering, Chukchi, East Siberian, Laptev, and Beaufort Seas. Data in the report represent granulometric analyses conducted by UW of over 4,300 sediment samples from approximately 1,500 stations collected during cruises of the Brown Bear, Thomas G. Thompson, Northwind, Staten Island, Burton Island, Surveyor, John N. Cobb, and Drifting Ice Station Alpha II. The full report accompanying the tabular data is available in .pdf form online (27.4 Mbytes).Data include collecting institution, ship, cruise, sample id, latitude/longitude, date of collection, water depth, sampling device, method of analysis, sample weight, sampled interval, raw weight percentages of sediment, within a given phi range. Some samples also have percentages of total gravel, sand, silt, clay, and statistical measurements such as mean, median, skewness, kurtosis, and standard deviation of grain size. These data are also included in the NGDC Seafloor Sediment Grain Size Database (doi:10.7289/V5G44N6W).

Horizontal Positional Accuracy
The horizontal accuracy of data values is approximately .001 degree of latitude/longitude.
Reliability
Quality control was performed by the originator. NCEI performed basic out-of-range location testing and checking of total phi weight percentages.
Data were received as ASCII, nine track magnetic tape, 19,400 total original 80 character records in 24 files, 4000 character blocksize. in originator's format and translated to the 073 fixed-field format for upload to the NGDC Seafloor Sediment Grain Size Database (doi:10.7289/V5G44N6W).
Library tape L02265 (previous=W06489), There was no search capability for the originator's format after FORTRAN selection/format programs on the CYBER were discontinued - data continue to be searchable in 073 form through the NGDC database. Working tape W06992 consisted of a formatted listing from the files blocked at 130/4550. Individual file record counts as received were: 1) 3150, 2) 100, 3) 4750, 4) 2750, 5) 50, 6) 900, 7) 1000, 8) 650, 9) 150, 10) 600, 11) 650, 12) 150, 13) 400, 14) 150, 15) 450, 16) 550, 17) 2400, 18) 400, 19) 150, 20) 500, 21) 100, 22) 150, 23) 50, and 24) 100. All files were consolidated into a single file on the working and library tapes.

NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information
NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.
