The fishery independent survey of Atlantic large and small coastal sharks is conducted bi-annually in U.S. waters. Its primary objective is to conduct a standardized, systematic survey of the shark populations off the U.S. Atlantic coast to provide unbiased indices of relative abundance for species inhabiting the waters from Florida to the Mid-Atlantic. This survey also provides an opportunity to tag sharks with conventional and electronic tags as part of the NEFSC Cooperative Shark Tagging Program, inject with OTC for age validation studies, and to collect biological samples and data used in analyses of life history characteristics (age, growth, reproductive biology, trophic ecology, etc.) and other research of sharks in U.S. coastal waters including the collection of morphometric data for size conversions. The time series of abundance indices from this survey is critical to the evaluation of coastal Atlantic shark species.

Simrad EK500 data logged in .ek5 format
1
Simrad EK500 data logged with Echolog 500. These files contain EK500 data telegrams output by an EX500 on its Ethernet port. The .ek5 file contains binary Ethernet packets as output by the Simrad echosounder. The EK500 manual contains full details of the EK500 Ethernet telegram formats and should be consulted for interpreting the Ethernet packets recorded within an .ek5 file.

NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information
NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.

NOAA Ship Delaware II
2014-09-18
creation
Delaware II (DE)
The NOAA Ship DELAWARE II conducts fishery and living marine resource research in support of NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northeast Fisheries Science Center's (NEFSC) Woods Hole Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA. The ship's normal operating area is the Gulf of Maine, Georges Bank, and the continental shelf and slope from Southern New England to Cape Hatteras, NC. Typical assessment work includes groundfish assessment surveys and Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction (MARMAP) surveys. Research conducted from the DELAWARE II provides an understanding of the physical and biological processes that control year-class strength of key economical fish species. The vessel is operated by NOAA Marine and Aviation Operations.

Simrad ME70
multibeam
The Simrad ME70 is a high resolution scientific multibeam echo sounder
with very low sidelobe levels. It is dedicated for collection of data in the water
column. The multibeam echo sounder combines the large and flexible sampling volume of
the multibeam swath with the accuracy of the quantitative scientific echo sounder. A
bathymetric option is also available to provide a high resolution seabed mapping
capability, and the possibility to study the fish habitat.

Simrad EK60
singlebeam
The Simrad EK60 Scientific Sounder system is a new generation fishery researchtool, based on experience from the EK500. The new electronic hardware is combined with up to date PC processing and Windows operation. The EK60 provides facilities for accurate echo sounding, data storage, data analysis and reporting results. The system communication is through Ethernet, which gives flexibility in the location of the EK60 system units and allows easy access to data from other instruments or stations on a vessel network. A post processing software, BI60, is also included in the EK60 system.
