abstract:  Multibeam mapping, single beam, water column sonar, sub-bottom profile, water column profile, ship sensor, ROV sensor, video and image data will all be collected during this mission.
purpose:  The overall goal of this cruise is to collect data to aid in the development of a baseline characterization of the targeted operating areas. Science objectives are to identify and explore the diversity and distribution of benthic habitats and features in the region; to conduct ROV dives along the Sigsbee Escarpment and in adjacent deep-water canyons; to locate and characterize underwater cultural heritage sites; to groundtruth acoustic seep data and characterize associated habitat; to recover long deployment experiments from the seafloor; and to deploy Argo floats.
credit:  Credit for this cruise goes to the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research and its Okeanos Explorer Program.

                code:  Seirios
description:  Seirios is a 6,000m rated camera platform designed for ocean exploration as part of a two-body tethered system. As a stainless steel framed platform of cameras, lights, and sensors, Seirios operates from the NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer (R337) along with the ROV Deep Discoverer. Attached to the ship by the electro-optical-mechanical 0.68 cable, Seirios carries an articulated HD camera and six 400W HMI lights for video production and improved lighting for D2. Fore and aft lateral thrusters enable Seirios to turn 360 degrees to maintain illumination in a desired direction. Seirios can also move laterally, within the constraints of the its cable. With the ROV attached by a 30m neutrally buoyant tether, one significant reason for utilizing Seirios in this two-body configuration is to decouple Deep Discoverer from the ship's motion. A suite of sensors provide real-time measurements of conductivity, temperature, depth, pressure, and more transmitted through high speed fiber optic communications.

description:  The TITAN is a color zoom camera with a continuous horizontal rotation, and 180 degrees tilt (Digital-Flip at 90 degrees) which insures that surveillance is constant and continuous. The camera can deliver 480-line color images in light as low as 1 lux and when selected using the System Controller high resolution (570-line) B/W images in extremely low light of 0.06 lux. A 22X optical zoom lens plus 10X digital zoom lens provides for a total zoom capacity of 220X. The camera can be provided in a 3,000m or 7,000m titanium pressure housing. A glass hemispherical viewport provides excellent video quality. Using the System Controller and built in joystick positioner, the operator maintains complete remote control of the camera lens, tilt, rotate, and many other functions.

description:  Seirios is a 6,000m rated camera platform designed for ocean exploration as part of a two-body tethered system. A suite of sensors provide real-time measurements of conductivity, temperature, depth, pressure, and more transmitted through high speed fiber optic communications.

code:  Insite Titan Tilt and Rotate Color Zoom Camera
                type:  Color Zoom Underwater Camera
description:  The TITAN is a color zoom camera with a continuous horizontal rotation, and 180 degrees tilt (Digital-Flip at 90 degrees) which insures that surveillance is constant and continuous.
