Archive of Geosample Data and Information from the Ohio State University Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center (BPCRC) Sediment Core Repository

The Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center (BPCRC) Sediment Core Repository operated by the Ohio State University is a partner in the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database, contributing information to the IMLGS to help researchers discover geological samples curated in their facility. The partner repository may also send related data, documents, and imagery to NCEI for long-term archive, but the originating institution is the definitive source of information related to their sample collection. The BPCRC sediment core repository archives marine and lake sediment samples collected from the Arctic Ocean and the Eurasian Arctic margin on U.S. National Science Foundation Office of Polar Programs (NSF-OPP) and Office of Naval Research (ONR) -sponsored projects since 1992.

Supplemental Information
The repository is a 10 × 15 × 4 m refrigerated unit with controlled temperature. Sediment cores are stored wet in D-tubes on shelf racks. BPCRC also has a spacious sediment laboratory that includes a 6-m-long center table and equipment for sediment sample processing such as a 4.5?l freeze dryer, drying ovens, centrifuge, ultrasonic bath, precision balance, etc.
Purpose The BPCRC sediment core collection is maintained for Arctic marine geological and paleoclimatic research. The purpose of adding information about the collection to the IMLGS is to promote new research on existing samples.
