The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) Department of Marine Geosciences made a one-time contribution of
data describing geological samples in their repository collected from 1957 to 1976 to the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database.
Information was contributed on 1098 gravity cores, 365 piston cores, and 317 dredges collected on 86 cruises of the Columbus Iselin, Gerda, Halimeda,
James M. Gillis, Pilsbury, NOAA Researcher, and Vicca, in the Atlantic Ocean.

Data Update Frequency Not planned - RSMAS core data in the IMLGS were contributed prior to, and have not been updated since approximately 1978.
Supplemental Information
Additonal samples, data, and information are available directly from the contributing institution, which is the authoritative and most current source of data and information related to their sample collection. The IMLGS contains a subset of summary metadata from the institutional database. Information about the RSMAS geological sample collection was contributed to the IMLGS by Dr. Martin Perlmutter, former Curator, in 1978. RSMAS participated in the design of the original IMLGS database.
Purpose The purpose of adding information about the RSMAS geological samples collection to the IMLGS was to promote new research on existing samples, and to preserve geospatial information about geological samples on which RSMAS research results were based.

Lineage information for:dataset
Lineage Statement Data are no longer received by NCEI from this repository. Incoming data were checked for adherence to controlled vocabularies, illegal data types in numeric fields, and out of range latitudes/longitudes. NCEI added IGSNs/links to related resources, where known, and performed cursory visual inspection of data for reasonableness, asking the originator for guidance on discrepancies.
