Purpose | Tsunami deposits are the physical evidence left behind when a tsunami impacts a shoreline or affects submarine sediments. These deposits can be preserved in the geologic record and studied long after the tsunami waves dissipate. The tsunami deposits database compliments and extends the historical record of tsunami events. |

Lineage Statement | This database was developed in 2006 when Dr. Barbara Keating of the University of Hawaii provided the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) with a spreadsheet listing various references (articles, books) describing tsunami deposits for archive and distribution. NGDC imported the data into a relational database and began to quality-control and improve the data. The tsunami deposits database compliments and extends the historical record. |
