            type:  Multibeam Echosounder
description:  The EM 2040 multibeam echosounder is the first system to bring all the advanced features of deep water multibeams to the near bottom sounding environment. Important deep water system features included with the EM 2040 are dual swath per ping (EM2040D) to allow a doubling of survey speed, FM chirp to achieve a much longer range capability, complete roll, pitch and yaw stabilization, and nearfield focusing both on transmit and receive. The EM 2040 is modular, allowing the user to tailor the beamwidths to the operational requirements, 0.4 by 0.7 and 0.7 by 0.7 degrees. The operating bandwidth available on the EM 2040 is unprecedented, from 200 to 400 kHz, which is a full octave, and this is achieved with the standard transducers. The operator can thus choose the best operating frequency for the application. The EM 2040 is well suited for surveys meeting the IHO-S44 special order. The standard depth rating of the EM 2040 subsea parts is 6000 meters. The system is ideal for operation on subsea vehicles such as ROVs or AUVs. The transmit transducer has an angular coverage of 200 degrees (±100 degrees) as standard, allowing a coverage of 5.5 times water depth when matched with a single receive transducer. Adding a second receive transducer allows surveying to the water surface or up to 10 times water depth on flat bottoms.

                type:  Multibeam Echosounder
description:  The EM 3002 is a new advanced multibeam echo sounder with extremely high resolution and dynamically focused beams. It is very well suited for detailed seafloor mapping and inspection with water depths from less than 1 meter up to typically 200 meters in cold oceanic conditions. Maximum depth capability is strongly dependant on water temperature and salinity - up to 300 meters is possible under favorable conditions. Due to its electronic pitch compensation system and roll stabilized beams, the system performance is stable also in foul weather conditions. The EM 3002 system uses frequencies in the 300 kHz band. This is an ideal frequency for shallow water applications, as the high frequency ensures narrow beams with small physical dimensions. At the same time, 300 kHz secures a high maximum range capability and robustness under conditions with high contents of particles in the water. EM 3002 uses a powerful sonar processor unit in combination with 1 or 2 compact sonar heads. The high computing power of the EM 3002 sonar processor makes it possible to apply sophisticated and exact signal processing algorithms for beamforming, beam stabilisation, and bottom detection. In High Density processing mode the system has close to uniform acoustic footprints and resolution over the whole swath width, and therefore a much improved capability to detect objects and other details on the bottom. EM 3002 will in addition to bathymetric soundings, produce an acoustic image of the seabed. System options include dual sonar heads (EM 3002D), water column data logging, and an extended transducer depth rating of 1500 m for underwater vehicles. The EM 3000 multibeam system was first produced in 2004 and is being phased out in 2013. Its replacement is the EM 2040.

description:  The SBE 21 accurately determines sea surface temperature and conductivity from underway vessels. Data is simultaneously stored in memory and transmitted to a computer serial port, allowing independent data logging and real-time data acquisition. Typically mounted near the ship's seawater intake, the SBE 21 is connected to an AC-powered interface box positioned near the computer. The interface box provides power and an isolated data interface, and contains a NMEA 0183 port for appending navigation information to the data stream.
