EK60 Water Column Sonar Data Collected During FK140216
Kona Integrated Ecosystem Assessment Survey (FK140216, EK60). The cruise accomplished
the following objectives: marine mammal observations from both the R/V Falkor and
the rigid hull inflatable boat along four transects. Collection of photographs from
each marine mammal sighting for further identification and individual tracking. Eight
EK60 acoustic transects were completed encompassing day and night variation. Nine
DIDSON with an attach CTD casts were done along with five additional CTD only casts
at specified stations.

Purpose | The scientific objectives of this cruise are to collect information to describe the physical, chemical, and oceanographic environment as well as observe cetacean activity along the west coast of Hawaii as support for the monitoring component of the NOAA Kona Region IEA. The proposed survey grid will allow comparison of oceanographic features between the Kohala shelf region to the north and the deeper offshore regiono to the south as well as near shore and offshore. |
