Pacific Hake (Merluccius productus) aggregations were targeted along the continental shelf and upper slope of the entire survey area. Hake populations were surveyed along a series of parallel line transects that in general were oriented east-west, spaced at an interval of 10 nmi apart, and traversed sequentially in alternating directions; The survey began from north of Point Piedras Blancas, CA (35.8N) to the Dixon Entrance area, Canada (54.9N) between June 20 and Aug. 21. All transects up to the Dixon Entrance and along the west coast of Haida Gwaii were completed. Sea depth at the inshore end of individual transects was nominally 50 m. Offshore extent of individual transects was typically at a depth of 1,500 m. purpose: to assess the abundance, distribution, and biology of coastal hake (Merluccius productus) off the west coast of US and Canada status: (MD_ProgressCode) completed pointOfContact: (CI_ResponsibleParty) individualName: Steve de Blois organisationName: NWFSC positionName: Research Fishory Biologist contactInfo: (CI_Contact) phone: (CI_Telephone) voice: 206-860-3478 address: (CI_Address) deliveryPoint: 2725 Montlake Blvd. E. city: Seattle administrativeArea: WA postalCode: 98112 country: USA electronicMailAddress: steve.deblois@noaa.gov role: (CI_RoleCode) principalInvestigator pointOfContact: (CI_ResponsibleParty) individualName: Lawrence C. Pictures of the ceremony will be posted here when available - please check back soon. Miller Freeman was a 215-foot fisheries and oceanographic research vessel and was one of the largest research trawlers in the United States. Miller Freeman's primary mission was to provide a working platform for the study of the ocean's living resources. The ship was named for Miller Freeman (1875-1955), a publisher who was actively involved in the international management of fish harvests. The ship was launched in 1967, but not fully rigged until 1975. The vessel was again re-rigged in 1982. Miller Freeman was homeported at the Marine Operations Center-Pacific in Newport, Oregon. With a 12,578 mile / 31 day endurance, Miller Freeman was capable of operating in any waters of the world. Miller Freeman was owned by the United States of America, Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The ship was operated by NOAA Marine and Aviation Operations and carried a complement of 7 NOAA Corps officers, 27 crew members, and maximum of 11 scientists. sponsor: (CI_ResponsibleParty) organisationName: DOC/NOAA/OMAO/MOC-P > Marine Operations Center - Pacific, NOAA Marine Operations, NOAA Office of Marine and Aviation Operations, NOAA, U.S. Department of Commerce contactInfo: (CI_Contact) phone: (CI_Telephone) facsimile: 206-553-2246 address: (CI_Address) deliveryPoint: NOAA/OMAO/MOC-P deliveryPoint: 1801 Fairview Avenue East city: Seattle administrativeArea: WA postalCode: 98102-3767 country: USA electronicMailAddress: CO.MOC.Pacific@noaa.gov role: (CI_RoleCode) pointOfContact instrument: (MI_Instrument) citation: (CI_Citation) title: Simrad EK60 Echosounder date: (inapplicable) identifier: (MD_Identifier) code: EK60 citedResponsibleParty: (CI_ResponsibleParty) organisationName: Simrad - Kongsberg Maritime AS contactInfo: (CI_Contact) phone: (CI_Telephone) voice: +47 3303 4000 (Norway) facsimile: +47 3304 2987 (Norway) address: (CI_Address) deliveryPoint: P.O.
