Core Data from the Deep Sea Drilling Project

Leg :  3    Top/Bottom Interval(mm):  140/1350  Analyst: Hsu, K.J.
Hole:  15   Sample Midpoint (m)    :   142.35
Core:  10   Top of Core Depth (m)  :   141.00
Sect:  1    Top of Section Depth(m):   141.14

LITHOLOGY: BASALT;

  Piece No.  : PCE NO PCE NUMBERS ASSIGNED;

  Texture : VERY FINE-GRAINED (APHANITIC), WITH GLASSY BASALT,
               GLASS HAS RED OBSIDIAN (CONTAMINATED BY HEMATITE);

  Structure : CALCITE VEIN (APPEARS TO BE MARBLE BUT RECOGNIZABLE
               AS VEIN FILLING BECAUSE OF ITS NEARLY VERTICAL
               ORIENTATION);

  Comments : BAGS CONTAIN SMALL CHIPS, ROCKS ARE ORIENTED PCES,
               WITH CHIPS OF WHITE CHALK, FRIABLE;

  Vesicles   : SOME VESICLES AND AMYGDULES;

  Replacement: CALCITE
               CALCITE VEIN, APPEARS TO BE MARBLE;

               HEMATITE
               CONTAMINATING OBSIDIAN;

Leg :  3    Top/Bottom Interval(mm):    0/   0  Analyst: Hsu, K.J.

Core:  10   Top of Core Depth (m)  :   141.00
Sect: CC Top of Section Depth(m): 142.60

LITHOLOGY: BASALT;

  Piece No.  : PCE NO PCE NUMBERS ASSIGNED;

  Texture    : APHANITIC;

  Comments : NO EVIDENCE OF CONTACT METAMORPHIC LAYER ABOVE
               BASALT AS IN HOLE 14 (EXCEPT FURTHER PRESENCE OF
               CHALK CHIPS);

Leg :  3    Top/Bottom Interval(mm):  550/ 810  Analyst: Hsu, K.J.
Hole:  15   Sample Midpoint (m)    :   142.11
Core:  11   Top of Core Depth (m)  :   141.30
Sect:  1    Top of Section Depth(m):   141.85

LITHOLOGY: BASALT;

  Piece No.  : PCE NO PCE NUMBERS ASSIGNED;

  Texture    : APHANITIC;

  Alteration : WEATHERED IN PLACE;

  Comments : DARK GRAY BASALT, 5 PCES OF BASALT AND SOME CHIPS
               WERE RECOVERED FROM CORE CATCHER AFTER SOME 5 HOURS
               OF CORING;
