FGDC RSE to ISO Crosswalks: Instrument Information

The FGDC Remote Sensing Extensions introduce a metadata section that describes the instrument used for the observations that formed the basis for the dataset. This section includes an Instrument_Reference and an Instrument_Description.

It is important to note that the RSE and ISO differ in their general approach to instrument information. In the RSE case, the metadata record includes a Collector_Description which is a detailed description of the instrument represented as XML like the rest of the record. The RSE Standard Description includes examples of this for a Scanner and a Frame Camera that consume over 50 pages. The ISO approach relies more on references or pointers to detailed descriptions rather than including them in the standard itself.
